Urine an alternative to water?

Let's all find out if urine is safe enough to drink when water is scarce.

An article "The Yellow Liquid Diet : Is it a good idea to drink urine when water is scarce?" written by Chris Wilson...

An extra day or two, at best. A healthy person's urine is about 95 percent water and sterile, so in the short term it's safe to drink and does replenish lost water. But the other 5 percent of urine comprises a diverse collection of waste products, including nitrogen, potassium, and calcium—and too much of these can cause problems. When you drink your own pee, all the stuff that your kidneys had attempted to excrete comes right back into your stomach, and much of it ends up back in your kidneys. After several days of this, your urine will become highly concentrated with dangerous waste products, and drinking it can cause symptoms similar to those brought on by total kidney failure. At that point, you're doomed either way—from dehydration on the one hand or renal meltdown on the other. (Even if one could filter out most of the unwanted products in urine, the cycle would not be sustainable for long. In addition to what he or she pees out, the average human excretes about half a quart of water a day through sweating and exhaling.) Read full article here.

Black Friday shopping

Hmn...you might be thinking that it's the Black Friday during Holy Week. No, no, no folks! I am referring to the Black Friday that falls a day after Thanksgiving. What comes in your mind after Thanksgiving? Mine is Christmas and the gifts that I will be receiving and of course, gifts for our love ones.

Stores are busy during that time of the year. We'll have all the stress in the world going to different stores to another to get the perfect gifts. Along with that, stores are so crowded and that we couldn't park our cars on the closer area. Also, there would be lots of shoppers flocking around with the same goals with ours --- to shop. Isn't it too hassle? Instead of going out for shopping, why not stay home, face the computer, browse websites and start shopping. But, wait up! We need updates from our favorite stores. I can help you with this. I recommend www.black-friday.net for you to browse. This website is updated with black friday ads of hundreds of stores around. You can get updates if the products you are looking for are available in the store or not. Aside from that, you'll also know the prices of these items. Black-friday.net also offers direct links to each product so you can purchase the items online on Black Friday without having to stand in line at the store. Discount codes are also available to let you save. The website is so easy to navigate. Cool, eh?

Smoking causes ear infection in kids

A new report from Perth's Telethon Institute for Child Health Research has found a strong link between childhood ear infections and exposure to tobacco smoke.

The families of 100 Aboriginal children and 180 non-Aboriginal children participated in the Kalgoorlie Otitis Media Research Project, allowing the collection of social, demographic, environmental and biological data to investigate the causes of otitis media (middle ear infections). The children had regular ear examinations from birth until 2 years of age.

Chief Investigator Dr Deborah Lehmann, who heads the Institute's infectious diseases research, said ear infections were the most common reason that young children see a doctor and can cause life-long problems.

"Up to 20 per cent of children have more than three ear infections between 1 and 2 years of age. If their hearing is damaged, it can seriously affect their educational outcomes and social circumstances in adulthood," Dr Lehmann said. Read full article here...

Higher asthma and allergy rates for first born babies

Reading a lot of articles from Sciencedaily.com feeds my mind with vast of information especially about pregnancy. I do love this though.

I do agree with the study conducted in the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom pertaining to the risk the first born baby will have. If you wanna know why, just read this article.

First-born Babies' Higher Asthma And Allergy Rates Due To Pregnancy Conditions
ScienceDaily (May 21, 2008)

First-born children are at higher risk of developing asthma and allergy because of different conditions they experience in the uterus, according to new research from the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom, which will be presented at the American Thoracic Society's 2008 International Conference in Toronto on May 21.

In order to determine whether the higher risk of asthma and allergy in first-born children is the result of a prenatal process of post-natal factors, researchers investigated whether birth order affected several immune markers that are set at birth, including a variation in the DNA of the IL-13 gene, which is linked to allergic development. Breastfeeding raises children's IQ

"Natural is the best". A mother's milk is full of nutrition for the baby. It has all the natural goodness that a formula can't provide.

I always say that I will be breastfeeding my baby. Now I am more inspired with the article I just read that breastfeeding raises children's IQ as well as improves academic performance. Of course, I am not forgetting the relevance of genetics. Children acquire intelligence from the parents and basic needs are just the secondary factors.

Anyway, let's just read this article.

Breastfeeding Associated With Increased Intelligence, Study Suggests
ScienceDaily (May 6, 2008)

The largest randomized study of breastfeeding ever conducted reports that breastfeeding raises children's IQs and improves their academic performance, a McGill researcher and his team have found.

In a new article, Dr. Michael Kramer reports the results from following the same group of 14,000 children for 6.5 years.

"Our study provides the strongest evidence to date that prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding makes kids smarter," said Kramer, a Professor of Pediatrics and of Epidemiology & Biostatistics in the McGill University Faculty of Medicine and lead investigator in the study. Read full article here...

Asthma and allergy during childhood : possible effect of C section delivery

So many studies have been conducted and some were proven. But whether it's true or not, it's better to be aware.

Just read this article about the possible effect of C-section delivery for babies when they reached childhood stage. Let's read.

Possible Biological Explanation For C-Section-linked Allergies And Asthma Found ScienceDaily (May 23, 2008)

Scientists believe they may have identified a biological explanation for the link between cesarean-section delivery and risk of allergy and asthma in childhood. Read full article here.

Baby for sale : 1 euro

As a soon-to-be-mom and as a human as well, my heart cries everytime I hear or read news about juvenile abuse. Just this morning, I came across this article about a couple selling their baby on ebay for 1 euro. How could they? Is that how cheap they think of a baby's life would cost? I can't even imagine hurting my own child or any living creatures. Baby's mom said it was a joke but then it's still an abuse in a latter sense.

Anyway, just read the article.

Here's an excerpt...
Authorities in southern Germany have taken custody of a 7-month-old boy after his parents posted an ad on eBay offering to sell him for one euro, or about $1.60. Read full story here.

A quick update

We just got home from the hospital to see mine and Dannielle's OB. So far, all went well. Dannielle is doing great according to her heartbeat. I didn't gain weight though due to the strict diet they put me into. There's nothing to worry anyway. Dr. Feigley said it's really normal. My blood pressure is fine as well as well as my tummy's measurement.

We'll be back again in the next two weeks and that would be the last. After that, our appointment will fall every week til the time comes. This means it's really close. July 14 is coming...

Mothers with High Normal Blood Sugar Levels Place Infants At Risk For Birth Problems

This info freaks me out. As I've said here, my blood sugar ain't normal and if not taken care of, there's a tendency that my baby will be affected.

Here's an excerpt from the article I just read.

Pregnant women with blood sugar levels in the higher range of normal --- but not high enough to be considered diabetes -- -are more likely than women with lower blood sugar levels to give birth to babies at risk for many of the same problems seen in babies born to women with diabetes during pregnancy, according to a study funded in large part by the National Institutes of Health.

These problems included a greater likelihood for Caesarean delivery and an abnormally large body size at birth. Infants born to women with higher blood sugar levels were also at risk for shoulder dystocia, a condition occurring during birth, in which an infant's shoulder becomes lodged inside the mother's body, effectively halting the birth process.

The study authors declined to make recommendations for acceptable blood sugar levels for pregnant women. The researchers were unable to identify a precise level where an elevation in blood sugar increased the risk for any of the outcomes observed in the study. Rather, the chances for the outcomes were observed to increase gradually, corresponding with increases in the women's blood sugar levels.

It is well known that high blood sugar levels characteristic of the diabetes that occurs during pregnancy present risks for expectant mothers and the infants born to them. The current study is the first to document that higher blood sugar levels, not high enough to be considered diabetes, also convey these increased risks. Furthermore, when the researchers mathematically adjusted for other potential causes of these risks--such as older maternal age, obesity, and high blood pressure--the increased risks due to higher blood sugar levels were still present.

Drinking Tap Water During Pregnancy Does Not Affect Unborn Fetus

I really thought before that drinking water directly from the faucet or tap water would really harm my baby in me. For that reason, I bugged my husband to get me a purifier. Just now, while creating some entries as my interim posts for the succeeding days, I browsed the info below which will put me shame once hubby reads this (hope not! lol).

According to a study in the November issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology (available online September 5), a team of researchers at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health headed by David A. Savitz, Ph.D., Director of the Center of Excellence in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Disease Prevention at MSSM, and formerly Chair of the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, have determined that drinking water DBPs -- in the range commonly encountered in the US -- do not affect fetal survival. This finding is particularly important because previous research has suggested that exposure to elevated levels of drinking water DBPs might cause pregnancy loss. The interaction of chlorine with organic material in raw water supplies produces chemical DBPs of health concern, including trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). Several epidemiological studies have addressed potential reproductive toxicity of DBPs. The strongest support in ealier studies was noted for pregnancy loss, including stillbirth. Researchers looked at three locations with varying DBP levels and evaluated 2,409 women in early pregnancy to assess tap water DBP concentrations, water use, other risk factors and pregnancy outcome. Tap water concentrations were measured in the distribution system on a weekly or biweekly basis. DBP concentration and ingested amount, bathing/showering and integrated exposure that included ingestion and bathing/showering were considered. Based on 258 pregnancy losses, the finding did not show an increased risk of pregnancy loss in relation to ingested amounts of DBPs. "Decisions about treating drinking water nationwide rest in part on these health concerns, and our results provide assurance that there is no measurable adverse effect of disinfection by-products on risk of miscarriage. Given the need to control risk of infection through treatment and the huge expense involved in further reducing DBPs, this is good news for the water utility industry and their customers" said David A. Savitz, Ph.D., lead investigator and Director of the Center of Excellence in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Disease Prevention at MSSM. Dr. Savitz conducted this research while on faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health. The researcher team included Drs. Philip Singer (Co-Principal Investigator), Katherine Hartmann, Amy Herring, and Howard Weinberg. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prenatal Exposure To Drugs, Alcohol And Tobacco Affect infant's Brain to Early Adolescence

Til now, I can't seem to grasp why there are individuals who are nicotine dependents despite of the large campaign about it's effect to the human body and the environment. I know it's not my own business but as a human as well and a dweller of this planet, smokes does affect me and my baby.

See the difference between two fetus' brains.

Equivalent brain slices from two study subjects of the same sex and age. The image on the reader's left is from a subject who was exposed to alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine and marijuana during the prenatal period while the image on right is from a control subject who had none of these prenatal exposures. Note that the cortical gray matter appears thinner in the subject with pre-natal exposures than is found in the control subject (see black arrowheads). In addition, the subcortical gray matter appears fuller and more robust in the control subject (B., arrows) than in the subject with the four pre-natal exposures (A., arrows) (Credit: Image courtesy of Children's Hospital Boston)

Constipation and pregnancy

I was really bothered by this before. The first time it happened was arduous. But as my bump gets bigger, constipation isn't too bad compared to what I experienced before.

Constipation is very common among pregnant women. It is caused by too much worry, anxiety, minimal physical exercise, and a low-fiber diet.

Here are the few things that may help prevent the occurrence of constipation and it's treatment if you are experiencing it now :

Eat a high fiber diet: Ideally, you will consume 25 to 30 grams per day of dietary fiber from fruits, vegetables, breakfast cereals, whole grain breads, prunes and bran. Drink a lot of fluids: Drinking plenty of fluids is important, particularly with your increase of fiber. Drink 10 to 12 cups of fluids each day. It is the combination of a high fiber diet and lots of liquid that best help you eliminate your waste. Sweat, hot/humid climates, and exercise may increase your need for additional fluids. Exercise routinely: If you are inactive, you have a greater chance of constipation. Walking, swimming and other moderate exercises help the intestines work by stimulating your bowels. Schedule exercise three times a week for 20-30 minutes each.

Over-the-counter remedies: There are over-the-counter products such as Metamucil (Catergory B) which may help soften your bowel movements and reduce constipation. Always speak to your health care provider before using over-the-counter medications.

Reduce or eliminate iron supplements
: Iron supplements may contribute to constipation. Good nutrition can often meet your iron needs during pregnancy. Taking smaller doses of iron throught the day rather than taking it all at once can reduce constipation. Talk to your health care provider about checking your iron levels and recommendations to manage iron intake during pregnancy. source

What to wear during pregnancy

As our body changes, our needs change, too. As our bumps get bigger and bigger, our wardrobe needs to be changed, too.

What do we really have to wear while we're pregnant? Here are some ideas which may help us in choosing our wardrobes :

Tops
There’s a huge range of maternity clothes in the shops, so you’ve got plenty to choose from. It’s hard to predict how big you’ll get, but for the early stages of pregnancy you’ll probably be able to get away with your old favourites – unless they’re ultra skimpy or cropped, which isn’t the greatest pregnancy look. As your bump expands, it’s good to invest in some new clothes. If budget is an issue and you can’t warrant spending money on something you’ll only wear for a short time, check out online auction sites, as you can usually pick up some great bargains.

Simply designed wrap tops are ideal for pregnancy, as they skim your bump and can be adjusted as your size changes. Specially designed maternity wear tops have cleverly designed panels that expand with you, yet don’t compromise the design, and dark colours such as black are flattering if you don’t want to stand out in the crowd.

If your top priority is comfort, you can’t beat baggy t-shirts and cosy jumpers. You may need to invest in bigger sizes, or perhaps borrow your other half’s offcasts. Likewise, long tunic tops, whether light and floaty or thicker and warm, are ideal if you prefer your bump covered.

Dresses and Skirts
With a protruding bump, dresses may seem a complete no-no, but don’t give up on the idea too quickly. Maternity dresses these days are no longer ugly, unflattering sacks – there are plenty of great designs, made to flatter your shape and help you look great during pregnancy.

As in the case of tops, you’ll find many wrap-style dresses, which are flattering on your stomach. Loose floaty dresses that flare out from under the bust are also great, but do make sure you pick a long style, as otherwise the front hemline may be prone to rising higher than the back.

Skirts with elasticated or drawstring waists offer the perfect way of coping with expanding waistline and you choose from maternity wear, or larger sizes in the usual high street shops.

Trousers
For the bottom half, leggings, jogging bottoms and elasticated maternity trousers are perfect for comfortable wear. The maternity versions usually have great built in panels that can be adjusted as you grow. You may hate the look of the huge waistline, but if you’re self-conscious about how you look, it can easily be hidden with a loose tunic top.

But don’t despair – if you’re a jeans lover at heart, you can still get some great jeans designed for pregnant women.

Footwear
It’s a good idea to think about your footwear too. As pregnancy progresses, and particularly in the third trimester, you’re likely to get achey, tired feet and ankles prone to swelling. Because of this you’ll need something comfortable to wear, that won’t be tight around your feet. High heels will be out for many people, but you may find flat ballet-style pumps very comfortable as an alternative.

If you’re suffering from swelling in your ankles, look for sandals or shoes with adjustable straps, so you can release the pressure and tightness around your ankle. Alternatively, for really comfy walking shoes you can get styles with Velcro straps, so you can easily loosen them to suit your needs.

Underwear
Don’t be remiss and forget to think of your underwear! You’ll need bigger sizes here too and should aim to get measured for a maternity bra by about seven months.

Preventing stretch marks for expecting moms

Whether we like it or not, stretch marks develop during pregnancy. Lines start to appear on our lower abdomen usually during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Apart from that, stretch marks also show up on other areas of out bodies such as upper thighs, buttocks, breasts and even arms. These depend on the amount of weight we gain and genetic history. Genetics really play a huge role why some pregnant women have more stretch marks than other.

Stretch marks can still be prevented or even limit it's appearance whether it's genetic or not. Here are the guidelines which really would help us :
  1. Eat a healthy, diverse and balanced diet that keeps your weight gain within the recommended range of 25 to 35 pounds. Excellent nutritional status is vital for your developing baby, but it also contributes to the strength and health of the body’s largest organ: the skin. What’s more, a controlled and steady weight gain, without any wild upward swings, will let your skin stretch at a steady rate without any unexpected jolts.

  2. Use a body brush or wash cloth to massage the areas where you have stretch marks, or want to prevent stretch marks from appearing - this will increase circulation to the area, which may be helpful.

  3. Drink plenty of water. Hydration is important for your overall health and well-being as well as that of your growing baby, and it is critical to healthy skin.

  4. Take your vitamins. This is one more way to ensure proper nutritional status, which is critical for your overall health and well-being, as well as beautiful skin and a healthy baby!

  5. Keep skin liberally and effectively moisturized beginning in the first or second trimester and through your recovery to your pre-pregnancy weight, perhaps with one of the many oils and creams marketed especially for stretch mark prevention. These moisturizers will help keep your skin supple and elastic plus serve as “food” (and vitamin supplements) for your skin. The various vitamins and oils used to create these formulas are designed to help enhance collagen production and support the dermis, to keep skin intact despite the rigorous stretching. source

Walking while pregnant

Eversince I got pregnant, I've always been told by my own mother and mommy friends to walk as my exercise. Afraid of giving birth, this advice is being followed by me. It is said that walking helps or ease' labor. We all know that walking is really a great exercise and this is even better for pregnant women.

To support my entry, I made my own research.

Walking for pregnant. It is a low-impact workout that can help keep your muscles toned as well as keep your joints and muscles around your uterus toned in order to help labor along, and help labor move faster. Here are some tips to be considered when walking : Wear Comfortable Shoes. If you know you are going to be outside walking all day, be sure that you are wearing tennis shoes that are comfortable to walk in, and not sandals, flip flops, or other shoes that offer no support. Take a Chair to Sit In. Everyone gets tired eventually while walking. While pregnant, you are likely to become tired and need a rest much more quickly than a non-pregnant woman. If you are doing an outside activity where there may not be adequate seating provided like an air show, street fair, or festival be sure to take your own chair with you, especially later in pregnancy. You want to have the ability to sit when you need to whether it is for 5 minutes or 30, and rest so that you can get back up and keep going. If you are walking around indoors, perhaps at a mall, be sure to sit down and rest on a bench when you feel the need. If you give your body a little time to recharge, you are more likely to be able to last all day. Take Sunscreen. No one likes to be sunburned, and sunburn is even worse when you are pregnant, especially later in pregnancy. You may already be uncomfortable and have problems sleeping, but trying to sleep with a sunburn could make you miserable. If you are going to be walking around outside, be sure to take plenty of sunscreen with you. Drink a Lot of Water.

Whether you are out in the heat or inside, it is important to keep yourself hydrated. Be sure to drink a lot of water. Try to stay away from sodas and other carbonated beverages that will dehydrate you and take away your energy. Water will help your body stay cool as well as help to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. If you are prone to having Braxton Hicks contractions, it will also help these slow down or reduce their intensity.
Know When to Call it Quits. Don't push yourself or try to do more than you can. If you simply feel that you can not keep going, you need to cancel your plans, and listen to your body. Your friends and family will understand. It is important not to overdo it or stress your body out too much, especially if you are not used to being out and walking all day. Remember to listen to your body and your instinct to do what is right for both you and your baby. source

Jennylyn Mercado's new boy

Jennylyn finally admits that she has a new boy in her life now. A boy whom he doesn't see yet and is nameless. Yes, she's very much inlove with her soon-to-be-son. Jen is still thinking about a name for her baby. She doesns't want a common name but a unique one. I wonder how Patrick Garcia would react?

Sooner or later, this baby will be one of the talked baby in town. A born survivor like her mom -- Startruck's Ultimate Survivor.

Celebrating Mother's Day

Hubby was so thoughtful enough for greeting me "happy mother's day my love". The greetings was late as he almost forgot it (lol). He greeted me late at noon. Better late than never. Despite of that, he still brought me to a movie and a fine meal. We had a tremendous day. It was my first time to be greeted as a soon-to-be-nanay(mom) by my lovie-dovie. Exactly to what I am expecting, it feels great. I can't wait for the next Mother's day...a new celebration to be added to our calendar knowing that it's really for real, a real mama.

Mariah Careys rumored wedding is definitely real

I still can't believe that my favorite Mariah Carey really got married. Believe it or not, I'm not infavor of that. I just dunno! I like her as she was before. Single and happy. But it's her life and she can do anything she want...including marriage.

Anyway, Carey and Cannon got married in Bahamas last April 30, 2008, few days after the April 25 proposal . She wore a slinky white wedding dress from Nile Cmylo, Christian Louboutin heels and a dinner napkin-like veil for the secret sunset nuptials at her sumptuous island estate.

Mariah is 39 and Nick, 27. source

Happy Mother's day!

Glitter Graphics

It's the day to honor our moms --friends, our own moms and mommies who are valuable to us.

I'm not a mommy yet...sooner I will be. I am delighted for I received messages from my friends and many thanks to them.

Weeks ago, I sent a pretty Mother's day card to my mama in the Philippines. I hope she already have it by now. It was sent early to ensure it will arrive on time. I didn't tell anyone in the family about such surprise. I also ordered a dozen of flowers for her.

For Chad's mom, we bought a card and we'll give it to her anyday now or tomorrow.

I also greeted some of my friends in the Philippines thru e-mails.

Simple greetings mean so much!

OB appointment again

(at the clinic)

Early 10 this morning, we headed ourselves to the Womens Hospital for our regular check-up. As I've said before, the monthly check-up was rescheduled twice a month and this is the first. Two weeks after, we're gonna go back again for another check-up.

So far, it went well. My tummy's measurement is perfect as well as baby's heartbeat. My weight and blood pressure are fine as well. The only thing that I should give attention is my sugar intake. I have to see a dietrician for a plan on my next visit. No more too much sugary foods for me till I give birth. Poor Lira!

A year after K-1 interview

I'd like to thank my friend jackie for reminding me. It should be remembered by me but I don't keep track of the dates that much. Still, I can't believe that it's been a year and here I am, able to live here in the United States with my hubby after everything that went through with processing my VISA. I remember the sleepless night I had the night before my interview. Glad jackie was with me in the hotel room. She shared her experience and that made me kinda at ease.

Anyways, though I wasn't able to remember that date, still I brought hubby to Chinese restaurant for dinner.

Am I lucky? (lol)

Well, as usual, I'm here again facing my computer to catch some opportunities. Lucky enough, I caught kinda big fishes which I think is right enough as a payment for not getting much these past few days. True enough, everyday is not a lucky day in Payperpost if your pagerank is nothing but zero. I hope I could get pageranks as well while I'm still free...not giving birth yet coz when that time comes, I'm sure less opps would be given to me.

Gotta go for now peeps. Have to catch more opps to fill the vacant slots.

If you are an Ass : A very loyal and sweet person. Your loyalty can never be doubted. You are quite honest and sincere when it comes to your attitude towards working. You are a very simple person, indeed. Absolutely hassle free, humble, and down-to-earth!! That explains the reason why your friends cling on to you! You have a good taste for clothes. If your wardrobe is not updated with what is trendy, you sure are depressed. Popular and easy-going. You have a little gr! oup of dignified friends, all of them being quality-personified.

If you are a Slug : Always up to some sort of a mischief! The mischievous gleam in your eyes is what mak e s you so cute and attractive to everyone. You are an extremely fun-to-be-with kind of person. No wonder people seek your company and look forward to include you for all get-together's. However, you are sensitive which is a drawback. People need to select their words while talking to you. If someone tries to fiddle around and play with words while dealing with you, it is enough to invite your wrath. God bless the person then!

If you are a Cockroach : Quite contradictory to your name, you are a peace loving person. You best try to avoid a situation wherein you are required to fight. An outdoor person, you dislike sitting at one place for a long duration. You are a born leader, and have it in you how to tactfull! y deriv e work from people. You love being loved and when you receive your share of limelight from s omeone, you are all theirs!!!! Well, well... Hence some people could even take an advantage, flatter you to the maximum and get their work done. So be careful.....

If you are a Parasite : An extremely lovable, adorable person, sometimes shy, with a passion for quick wit. At times, you prefer quietness. You love exploring various things and going into depth of each thing. Under normal circumstances you're cool but when given a reason to, you are like a volcano waiting to erupt. You're a fashion bird. People look forward to you as an icon associated with fashion. Basically, you mingle along freely but don't like talking much to strangers. People feel very easy in your company. You observe care in choosing your friends.

If you are a Skunk : You are near to perfect and nice at heart! . The e xamples of your kindness are always circulated in groups of people. You, too, love peace. You wouldn't like to retaliate even to a person who is in the wrong. You are loved due to this. You do not wish to talk behind one's back. People love the way you always treat them. You can give, give, and give love, and the best part is that you do not expect it back in return. You are generous enough. Seeing things in a practical light is what remains the best trait of you guys.

If you are a Bullfrog : You symbolize a very happy-go-lucky approach in life. Whatever the surroundings may be, grim or cheerful, you remain unaffected. In fact, you spread cheer wherever you go. You are the leader of your group of fri ends! and go od at consoling pe ople in their times of need. You dislike hypocrisy and tend to shirk away from hypocrites. They can never be in your good books, no matter what. You are very methodical and organized in your work. No amount of mess, hence, can ever encompass you. Beware, it is easy for you to fall in love....

If you are a Snake : You are mysterious. You are someone who can handle pressure with ease, and can handle any atmosphere without going berserk. You can be mean at times, and love to gossip with your selected group. Very prim and proper. You like all situations and things to be in the w! ay you desire, which, sometimes is not possible. As a result, you may lose out in some relationships. But otherwise, you love to help people out from difficult and tight spots when they really need you.

If you are an Ape : Very impatient and hyper!!! You want things to be done as quick as possible. At heart, you are quite simple and love if you are the center of attraction. That way, you people are unique. You would like to keep yourself safe from all the angles. Shall your name be dragged or featured in any sort of a controversy, you then go all panicky. Therefore, you take your precautions from the very beginning. When you foresee anything wrong, your sixth sense is what saves you from falling in traps. Quite a money minded bunch you people are

Child rearing tips

I ain't a mom yet so I haven't really experience raising a child full time. I have had couple of students before but being a mom is way too far from that.

I searched for information on how to raise my soon-to-be daughter especially if has a "character" which is very common for children nowadays. Here's what I got from the article "10 tips for raising children with character" written by Dr. Kevin Ryan.

1. Put parenting first. This is hard to do in a world with so many competing demands. Good parents consciously plan and devote time to parenting. They make developing their children’s character their top priority.

2. Review how you spend the hours and days of your week. Think about the amount of time your children spend with you. Plan how you can weave your children into your social life and knit yourself into their lives.

3. Be a good example. Face it: human beings learn primarily through modeling. In fact, you can’t avoid being an example to your children, whether good or bad. Being a good example, then, is probably your most important job.

4. Develop an ear and an eye for what your children are absorbing. Children are like sponges. Much of what they take in has to do with moral values and character. Books, songs, TV, the Internet, and films are continually delivering messages—moral and immoral—to our children. As parents we must control the flow of ideas and images that are influencing our children.

5. Use the language of character. Children cannot develop a moral compass unless people around them use the clear, sharp language of right and wrong.

6. Punish with a loving heart. Today, punishment has a bad reputation. The results are guilt-ridden parents and self-indulgent, out-of-control children. Children need limits. They will ignore these limits on occasion. Reasonable punishment is one of the ways human beings have always learned. Children must understand what punishment is for and know that its source is parental love.

7. Learn to listen to your children. It is easy for us to tune out the talk of our children. One of the greatest things we can do for them is to take them seriously and set aside time to listen.

8. Get deeply involved in your child’s school life. School is the main event in the lives of our children. Their experience there is a mixed bag of triumphs and disappointments. How they deal with them will influence the course of their lives. Helping our children become good students is another name for helping them acquire strong character.

9. Make a big deal out of the family meal. One of the most dangerous trends in America is the dying of the family meal. The dinner table is not only a place of sustenance and family business but also a place for the teaching and passing on of our values. Manners and rules are subtly absorbed over the table. Family mealtime should communicate and sustain ideals that children will draw on throughout their lives.

10. Do not reduce character education to words alone. We gain virtue through practice. Parents should help children by promoting moral action through self-discipline, good work habits, kind and considerate behavior to others, and community service. The bottom line in character development is behavior--their behavior.

As parents, we want our children to be the architects of their own character crafting, while we accept the responsibility to be architects of the environment—physical and moral. We need to create an environment in which our children can develop habits of honesty, generosity, and a sense of justice. For most of us, the greatest opportunity we personally have to deepen our own character is through the daily blood, sweat and tears of struggling to be good parents.

Safe Exercise Plan During Pregnancy

Before doing so, it's best advised to consult your doctor first to avoid any complications. This infos are excerpt from this article. It's best if you read the whole of it on the given link.

Limit your exercise if you have :

  • pregnancy-induced high blood pressure
  • early contractions
  • vaginal bleeding
  • premature rupture of your membranes, also known as your water (the fluid in the amniotic sac around the fetus) breaking early
exercise to try?

Many women enjoy dancing, swimming, water aerobics, yoga, Pilates, biking, or walking. Swimming is especially appealing, as it gives you welcome buoyancy (floatability or the feeling of weightlessness). Try for a combination of cardio (aerobic), strength, and flexibility exercises, and avoid bouncing.

Many experts recommend walking. It's easy to vary the pace, add hills, and add distance. If you're just starting, begin with a moderately brisk pace for a mile, 3 days a week. Add a couple of minutes every week, pick up the pace a bit, and eventually add hills to your route. Whether you're a pro or a novice, go slowly for the first 5 minutes to warm up and use the last 5 minutes to cool down.

Exercise to avoid

avoid any activities that include:
  • bouncing
  • jarring (anything that would cause a lot of up and down movement)
  • leaping
  • a sudden change of direction
  • a risk of abdominal injury

Typical limitations include contact sports, downhill skiing, scuba diving, and horseback riding because of the risk of injury they pose.

Kegel Exercise

Although the effects of Kegel exercises can't be seen from the outside, some women use them to reduce incontinence (the leakage of urine) caused by the weight of the baby on their bladder. Kegels help to strengthen the "pelvic floor muscles" (the muscles that aid in controlling urination).

Kegels are easy, and you can do them any time you have a few seconds — sitting in your car, at your desk, or standing in line at the store. No one will even know you're doing them!

To find the correct muscles, pretend you're trying to stop urinating. Squeeze those muscles for a few seconds, then relax. You're using the correct muscles if you feel a pull. Or place a finger inside your vagina and feel it tighten when you squeeze. Your doctor can also help you identify the correct muscles.

A few things to keep in mind when you're doing Kegel exercises:

  • Don't tighten other muscles (stomach or legs, for example) at the same time. You want to focus on the muscles you're exercising.
  • Don't hold your breath while you do them because it's important that your body and muscles continue to receive oxygen while you do any type of exercise.
  • Don't regularly do Kegels by stopping and starting your flow of urine while you're actually going to the bathroom, as this can lead to incomplete emptying of your bladder, which increases the risk of urinary tract infections.

What to take to the hospital when it's time

I am 7 months months pregnant and 2 months from now, the baby is about to come out no matter what. Being prepared is what I always wanted even before I got pregnant.

Yesterday, I was thinking of what are the things to do. I'm done washing and ironing Dannielle's clothes and blankets and even put it up in her closet and drawers. I also arranged everything in her room from toys to gears. What I need to do it to prepare the things we are bringing to the hospital when the time comes. We already got it. It's just that I need to put it in a bag.

Today, I was checking a list or instructions I read over the net which I definitely put in mind. Tomorrow or within this week, I will surely prepare everything including mine.

Here's what I read...

Packing check list
  • Your medical records and birth plan.
  • Cosmetics bag, including soap and shampoo.
  • Sanitary towels.
  • Underwear.
  • Dressing gown and slippers.
  • Change of clothes.
  • Nursing bra.
  • Medication.
  • Camera and film for photos.
  • Change for phone and TV cards.
  • CDs or tapes of music.
  • Books, magazines or puzzle books.
  • Clothes and nappies for your newborn

  • The most important item to take is your medical records - don't forget them!

Other things you will want to take are a cosmetics bag, sanitary towels (not tampons), clean underwear, slippers and a dressing gown. Even if you are not spending a long time in hospital, it can feel incredibly refreshing to take a shower and change into clean underwear.

It might be a good idea to take something to wear after giving birth - after all, it will be your first opportunity in months to put on something other than maternity clothes.

It can also be quite practical to have a nursing bra. If you're breastfeeding, you'll find this more convenient than taking a regular bra off and putting it back on every time your baby needs feeding.

    Comfort items

If you like listening to music, it's a good idea to take some favourite CDs or tapes to the hospital. Studies have shown that music helps relaxation and is extremely soothing.

Time can sometimes pass slowly when in labour so books and magazines may come in handy. If you are very tired, get a companion to read to you.

What should I take for my baby?

You may not want to bring baby things into the maternity ward, but it's a good idea to have a packed bag ready for the journey home from hospital. This could include:

    • nappies

    • clean underwear

    • a set of clothing for you and baby, suitable for the journey home.

If you are planning to take your baby home by car, it's a good idea to have a carrycot and blanket ready. You must be able to fasten it securely so your baby can be transported home safely.

Would you like to make a phone call?

After giving birth, parents will probably want to share the good news with others.

Mobile phones are not allowed to be used in hospitals, because they may interfere with sensitive electronic equipment there. So remember to take small change or a call card for phones. source

    I won!

Yesterday, I was bidding for two signatured bags on ebay. I thought I will win the first one unfortunately, I was outbid. It happened in just a single minute. Oh boy! that bidder was fast, yeah!

With my misfortune, I bid again for the second chance. This time around, I won! I bid for a cheaper price for such a pretty purse.

Now, I know how to bid on the last minute. Next time, I'll try not to let go.

Jenna bush to say "I do"

Jenna Bush, the First daughter will leave her single life and will soon marry her long time fiance, Henry Hager on Monday, 12th of this month. The said wedding will happen at their 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford, Texas for a private or family affair.

Jenna is a graduate of University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English. She taught third grade at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. Now, Jenna is promoting her book "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," about a single mother with AIDS and "Read All About It!" a story about a boy who discovers the joys of reading.

Henry is the son son of the head of the Republican Party in Virginia. He graduated from Wake Forest University, worked as an aide to Bush's former top political adviser Karl Rove and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and is set to receive a master's degree in business administration later this month from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.

    More free for Dannielle

Since I got pregnant, free or sample stuff from different companies have been coming in. I already received 2 cans of formula, magazines, books, coupons and the latest... samples of diaper from huggies, luvz and pampers. I would be more happy if the company sent me a bag with a hundred of diapers (lol). Sometimes I feel it's so nice to be pregnant (lol).

Anyway, I wonder what I'm gonna get next time. Hope a thousand dollar that I can shop til I drop...

Gaining weight during pregnancy affect kids

Pregnant women are advised to watch their weight to prevent any risks especially for children. I know how hard it is to deprive ourselves with the food we want but this is for our own good and for our babies as well. I admit I am hardheaded sometimes...

Here's an excerpt from the article I read...

The standard advice for how much weight a woman should gain during pregnancy may need to changed, concludes a rigorous and provocative study suggesting that even accepted weight gains may raise the risk of having an overweight toddler.

Women in the study who gained the recommended amount of weight ran four times the risk of having a child who was overweight at age 3, compared to women who gained less than the advised amount.

    Gifts...gifts...gifts (baby shower)

I am thankful for we had a baby shower thrown by Chad's family and friends. Feels great being loved and supported by these people. The stuff that we got is really a big help to us especially the bags of diapers. If I'm not mistaken, I think it's good for months of use. We all know how expensive that thing is. With that, we'll be able to save. Also, we got clothings, toys and more. Baby Dannielle's room is so crowded now.

    Benefits of Exercising During Pregnancy

Here are the benefits we can get if we exercise during pregnancy. It helps us to :

    • feel better. At a time when you wonder if this strange body can possibly be yours, exercise can increase your sense of control and boost your energy level. Not only does it make you feel better by releasing endorphins (naturally occurring chemicals in your brain), appropriate exercise can:

    1. relieve backaches and improve your posture by strengthening and toning muscles in your back, butt, and thighs
    2. reduce constipation by accelerating movement in your intestine
    3. prevent wear and tear on your joints (which become loosened during pregnancy due to normal hormonal changes) by activating the lubricating fluid in your joints
    4. help you sleep better by relieving the stress and anxiety that might make you restless at night

    • look better. Exercise increases the blood flow to your skin, giving you a healthy glow.
    • prepare you and your body for birth. Strong muscles and a fit heart can greatly ease labor and delivery. Gaining control over your breathing can help you manage pain. And in the event of a lengthy labor, increased endurance can be a real help.
    • regain your pre-pregnancy body more quickly. You'll gain less fat weight during your pregnancy if you continue to exercise (assuming you exercised before becoming pregnant). But don't expect or try to lose weight by exercising while you're pregnant. For most women, the goal is to maintain their fitness level throughout pregnancy.

Moms diet plays a role in having a baby boy or girl?

If you want a baby boy I guess this will work. Eat a hearty appetite, eating potassium-rich foods including bananas, and not skipping breakfast. This is based from the research conducted in Europe. If only I knew this long before I got pregnant, I could have practiced this kind of diet.

The British research is billed as the first in humans to show a link between a woman's diet and whether she has a boy or girl.

Anyway, here's the whole article I read. You might say I'm just kidding around here (lol). Am really not. Read the whole article here
